Speaker A [00:00:08]:
Hey there. It's Virginia James with the Zone of Purpose podcast, and welcome to this encouraging space For women and for those who wanna show up and remember that their wisdom is within. Now I will say that it took me years to figure this out, but now I will never live my life the way I used to. The rat race, the go go go, that's Done for. We're moving on from that because all it gets us is burnout, stress, procrastination, overthinking, you name it. Now I zone with soul, and I'm going to help you do the same by remembering our wisdom is within and living and working from that. Let's get into it. Hey.

Speaker A [00:00:51]:
It's Virginia James with the Zone of Purpose podcast, and we are back here in 2024, a new calendar year on paper. And I just wanted to share with you here on the podcast one of my recent moments, so I'll say and I shared in the weekly wisdom a week ago, but I wanna make sure that you get it here in this setting and on this platform. So let's discuss it. First of all, let's just own that 2023 for me and mine, it was really challenging in a lot of ways. There was A lot of grief, a lot of transition, unexpected and expected. And it was it was really hard. So I'll admit when 2024 was getting Closer and closer and closer. I was a little excited for it.

Speaker A [00:01:37]:
I'll admit that it's a mind game sometimes. Right? And we Have to do what we have to do when when we need to. So let's just own that. So as 2023 is winding down, I actually I'll admit because of some stuff happening in life, I was getting pretty burnt out. It wasn't because of the business. It wasn't because of FSW. It was just because of life lifing. So that's why I wanted to share with you these 3 tips that I've shared with the FSW circle, And I wanna make sure you get them here.

Speaker A [00:02:09]:
Okay? Let's talk about number 1. First of all, you need to get very Specific. Let's get quantitative about what burnout looks like for you because it's a very specific thing. I know for me I'll just say this real quick. For me, when I get burnt out, I can tell 2 things proactively. Number 1, all I wanna do is drink tea. That's it. Or a warm beverage.

Speaker A [00:02:33]:
Maybe some coffee, though I don't really like the taste of coffee. I'll admit that. And the other aspect is I don't like eating. I really don't. The stress, like, makes me Lose my appetite. I know that some of you can relate to this. And I just say, like, wow. That that chocolate bar is, like, the only thing I wanna eat for 4 days or maybe some peanuts or something.

Speaker A [00:02:53]:
You know, lately, it's been olives, a really nice Italian olive, but you get what I'm saying. I recognize when those 2 things start happening, burnout is already here or it's getting worse. Okay. So that's what I want to bring up. Number 1, you need to quantify it. Okay? We need to get very specific in the sense of, On a scale of 1 to 10, how burnt out are you feeling? You can do this for a few days. You can do this for a few weeks if you want to to track that. It's really useful.

Speaker A [00:03:24]:
And then it carries into our 2nd tip. Number 2. I'd like you to consider what narrative or language or scriptures you have for what burnout looks like for you. Okay? So for example, when I observe that I'm eating pretty much chocolate Glit chips and olives or something like that, even healthy organic ones, are all natural. That's that's a tell. That's a sign for me as Virginia. K? Now consider that you need to give language to it. Why are you feeling burnt out? Why are you feeling exhausted? And then you dig deeper.

Speaker A [00:03:58]:
Why is that happening? Fill in the blank. We dig a little deeper. Okay. Why is that happening? Or why is this reality? Or why am I feeling this way. K? We dig in and we dig in and we dig in, and then we can kind of find this foundational situation in our life That's happening. That makes us go, woah. I need I need to restructure this. Now I will own parts of 2023.

Speaker A [00:04:24]:
Actually, the 3 major life crises that were happening were all out of my control. How I responded to them? Absolutely in my control. But what was happening was outside of it, and that was that was really big. It was really big, and you all know what that feels like. Okay? And I think sometimes we burn out because we want it to be different. We just we'll dedicate more time, energy, resources to it. But damn it. At the end of the day, the situation is happening.

Speaker A [00:04:52]:
Right? You know what I mean? Alright. So Think of that. Number 1, quantify. Number 2, qualify, if you will, to use my PhD stuff language. And then the final tip I have for you is we need to work with this reframe. Now, again, I dropped in the weekly wisdom. You're welcome to go it out on YouTube if you wanna see me talking instead of just listen to me talking. But the reality is I have been using this a lot lately.

Speaker A [00:05:19]:
In the last couple months, I have recognized this question. Well, number 1, let me let me do a little footnote for a second. There's this book by Byron Katie. I had to grab it for a second. Byron Katie, b y r o n, and then Katie with capital k, a t I e. Alright. The title is called loving what is, 4 questions that can change your life. Now I read this years ago, and it's gonna help with the reframe.

Speaker A [00:05:45]:
One of the main points and takeaways I will always remember from this book is the question, is this true? Is it true? Now, admittedly, sometimes we think something's true about another person or a workplace or something Like that, a certain policy maybe or the way things are set up or how you're treated in a friendship. We think something is true. Okay. We can always Dig into that, to be very honest. However, the question I've been using for myself lately, and I want you to do it as well If it helps you out, my friend, is is this my story? Now it doesn't mean as privileged Folk depending upon what your level of privilege is. For me, I'm a white identifying woman, although a queer woman. So, you know, There there is that marginalization there, but I have way more privilege than a lot of women in the world. K? I'll own that.

Speaker A [00:06:38]:
But what I wanna say is when we ask this question of is this My story, it kind of lets us look at it from a new angle, especially as we're burning out. And It doesn't mean we don't get involved in the story. You know what I'm saying? If it's not ours specifically. However, if you even look at it from perspective as I do. I'm talking so fast. I'm excited about it. I do believe that we're all collectively interwoven, energetically, spiritually woven, reincarnation, etcetera, etcetera. I can always talk about it some other time if you want me to.

Speaker A [00:07:12]:
But what I mean is this is a multilayered existence from my perspective. So I do believe we're all connected. I do believe that this is the huge collective story of humanity that we continue to live through every goddamn day. K? Now when I ask this if this is my story, what I mean by that is the example I used in the weekly wisdom is, am I the narrator of this story? Am I a main character? Am I a side character? Am I, you know, like, just reading and observing the story versus having any involvement in its development. And the reason why I bring this up and, yes, I am writing, you know, book 3 right now, my LGBTQ plus Women's book, but the reality is it made me think about this idea of burnout. Because we burn out I've burnt out for so many different reasons. I just wanted things to be different. I wanted things to change, so goddamn it.

Speaker A [00:08:06]:
I'm gonna put in a 180% of my energy and time into it. And then I see it down the road and I'm like, Fuck. It's not changing. Right? That's partly what burnout can look like. Okay? And you, again, know what it is for you. So use these 3 tips whether it's, you know, today, during the week, at your job. I don't care. On your commute, At home, it doesn't matter.

Speaker A [00:08:30]:
Use these 3 tips. Let's go over them and wrap this up. Number 1, quantify it. 1 to 10. Where are we at? You gotta track that stuff so we know where we can shift and make changes. Number 2, what also helps us shift to make changes is Looking at it with description, detail, maybe not I mean, yes, analysis. But, again, what are we here for? Using our wisdom within. Utilize your wisdom to say, oh, such and such.

Speaker A [00:08:57]:
Hold on. Like, for me. Oh, Virginia. I know you're trying so damn hard, but guess what? We might need to let this have a little bit of flow, a little cushion, a little bit of time to percolate. Alright. Finally, number 3. Reframe it a little bit. Is this true? Looking at the wisdom of Byron Katie.

Speaker A [00:09:16]:
Or is this my story? How am I involved in this story? What am I here to do for this story or this situation? Truly. Really. Okay? Alright. Thank you for tuning in. We're in season 2 now. I'm excited for it. The reason why there's season 2 is because I've been doing this podcast for a while now, and I'm like, oh, there's seasons? Oh, Oh, so let's just organize this a little differently. That's that's how we're doing this.

Speaker A [00:09:41]:
2024 is about organization, my friends. That's where I'm at. I don't know about you, but that's my goal. Alright. I hope you have a beautiful, beautiful week ahead, day ahead, month ahead. We're mid January now, and I'm excited to see what the rest of the year brings. And deities willing, it's a little bit easier than last year and the years before that. You take care of you.
